Assunto: [DC3] ISIF Asia Community Networks projects selected from 2018 grants and awards

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share the good news about our selection for the Community Networks Grants and Award. The full announcement is attached, for you to learn about the 10 projects selected across different categories. On the Community Networks category, one award and two grants were selected as below. Claire from the project in Aurora will be attending the IGF as part of the award package.

I am copying on this email the 3 project teams, as I think this mailing list will be a great opportunity for them to share about their work and join a community of like-minded people.

  1. Community Cellular Networks in Rural Aurora: Development and deployment of GSM Community Cellular Networks in rural Philippines. University of the Philippines – Diliman, The Philippines (Cedric, Claire and Erin)

  1. Community LTE in Papua: Deployment of the first locally-owned and operated handset to support LTE networks in the world to rural Papua, Indonesia, using low-cost eNodeBs and a custom developed enhanced packet core. Yayasan Noken Baliem Mandiri, Indonesia (David and Ravita)

  1. Connecting the Unserved - Bhutan's First Trial with TV White Space Technology: Deployment of emerging TV white space technology as an alternative broadband option in Bhutan. NANO, Bhutan (Norbu)

The call for 2019 grants and awards will open in February next year, so information about the categories will be shared shortly before.

Warm regards,

Sylvia
