Hi all, I am sharing a proposal for BTN from Eric Nitschke, which I have been asked whether the CNSIG is able to support. It is for an online course on CNs. Eric has worked in South Africa and has a technical background in implementing grassroots tech (working with CNs too) also developing online courses. We would need to give a response in the next 3 days.

I mentioned to Eric that the SIG would need to find a Chapter and draft an agreement with them to be able to apply. He has therefore drafted an MoU that we could use. Attached with the proposal below.

I am passionate about knowledge sharing and I don’t yet know what the most effective way would be to share skills between/ for CNs…. Beyond of course our peer to peer sharing which I find invaluable. I do think that exploring an online course is interesting, and also a course that would be presented through CN operators and give real case studies is the right way to go.

So, please read below and let me know a) if you would be OK to support, b) if you know a Chapter willing to sign an MoU which limits their input to covering costs of receiving and disbursing funds.

Saludos, Sol

Subject: ISOC Beyond the Net Grant Proposal

Dear CNSIG Executive Committee,

This email and draft proposal within is the result of more than a year of conversations with countless people who seek to strengthen the capacity of community networks and the people they serve around the world.

My hope is to bring together the CNSIG, an ISOC Chapter to be determined, and my company, Wakoma Incorporated, to apply for the Beyond the Net Medium and Large Grant Programme, and build an open, social, and highly valuable eLearning course which is accessible to all, especially those in low-resource environments.

Given that the BTNG application is due on Monday, I have drafted much of the documentation required for the submission which you can find below.

The documents are open to anyone who clicks these links, so please consider these documents business confidential and only forward to other CNSIG Executive Committee members for the time being.

All text, figures, and dates are drafts/suggestions and subject to your input and discussions which can take place in this email thread and by adding comments/replies directly in the documents.  Given time constraints it may also make sense arrange a call tomorrow (Friday) or Monday morning.

I hope as a Committee you see the value that this project would bring and decide to submit this proposal together on Monday.

Greatly looking forward your thoughts and questions, and hopefully working together on this project and beyond.

Yours Sincerely,

Eric Nitschke
