Dear all,
In case you haven't seen it on the webpage dedicated to our session, please find the consolidated DRAFT Glossary of Key Terms on Platform Law and Policy at this link https://cyberbrics.info/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Glossary-on-Platform-Law…
We would like to sincerely thank all the members of the Working Group on the Platform Glossary who dedicated a lot of time and efforts to produced this DRAFT (listed here in alphabetical order): Luca Belli, Vittorio Bertola, Yasmin Curzi de Mendonça, Giovanni De Gregorio, Rossana Ducato, Luã Fergus Oliveira da Cruz, Catalina Goanta, Tamara Gojkovic, Cynthia Khoo, Stefan Kulk, Paddy Leerssen, Laila Neves Lorenzon, Chris Marsden, Enguerrand Marique, Michael Oghia, Courtney Radsch, Konstantinos Stylianou, Rolf H. Weber, Chris Wiersma, Monika Zalnieriute and Nicolo Zingales.
Below a useful recap of the steps that we have followed over the past months to elaborate this DRAFT with the members of the Working Group on the Platform Glossary
The following action plan was shared for feedback, and subsequently implemented between May and October 2020:
1) reception of expressions of interest for the development of the Glossary and participation to the Coalition session
2) consolidation of the proposed terms and circulation of a draft list of terms to be used to compose the Glossary
3) reception of feedback on the draft list and suggestion of further terms
4) creation of a multistakeholder working group dedicated to the elaboration of the glossary including all the individuals who expressed interest in the initiative
5) elaboration of draft entries describing the proposed terms
6) consolidation of the draft entries into a first draft version of the glossary and request for comment on the first draft
7) consolidation of the updated version into a consolidated draft to be circulated at the IGF 2020 for further feedback from the IGF community
8) discussion of the draft at the 2020 session of the Coalition, during the IGF, and elaboration of a strategic approach aimed at maximising the impact of the Glossary.
Please feel free to share your feedback on the Glossary either here or during the session https://www.intgovforum.org/multilingual/content/igf-2020-platform-regulati…
We would like to allow all interested stakeholders (from the IGF community at large) to provide feedback on this DRAFT by the end of the year (31 December) so that we can subsequently consolidate all feedback and proceed with the final revision and publication of the Glossary
A special thanks to the members of this list that supported this project and many thanks in advance to all those who will share their feedback
All the best
Luca and Nicolo

About this Session:
This session will discuss the most relevant and contentious platforms governance issues such as AI, content moderation, effective remedies that need a convergent approach to be addressed effectively. It will present the first consolidated draft of the Glossary on Platform Law and Policy, a guide on key terms related to platform governance for policymakers, researchers and other stakeholders alike.
DC:

Platforms
Description:
This session will feature an expert-led discussion of recent trends and developments around platform governance. It will begin with a series of brief presentations of the DC output for 2019/2020: a glossary of terms of platform law and policy. This will be followed by an open discussion with specific focus on future directions of work for the DCPR.
Relevance to IG:
The proposal aims to provide visibility to the important work of the DCPR around the definition and simplification of key internet governance issues, such as platform responsibility, content recognition technologies, disinformation, various forms of online harm, end to end encryption, recommender systems, data portability, interoperability and non-discrimination (just to name a few). This will provide the floor for a multistakeholder discussion, bringing together a range of views, and account for the relationships between existing laws, enforcement and self-regulation in crucial platform governance domains.
Relevance to Theme:
The discussion that this proposal aims to stimulate would enable the identification by stakeholders of diverging and converging approaches to responsible content moderation, thus elucidating the importance of different approaches to responsibility for platforms and users alike.
