Hi Steve,

You've made a good point and what I had in mind, was to promote community networks when we really had something to say, like once the Guadalajara declaration was ready, or when we got some other things done as a collective or when there is something big happening in the #comcon -world. :)

It could also let our followers know, when we're gathering live or virtually and inform them of new projects by our members.

You're absolutely right in being cautious about our tweets representing the whole community and we definitely don't have to start tweeting all the time. Only the obvious things that we can find common ground on.

I wonder if it is a bit early for the community to have a twitter account, if indeed it should ever have one.  A twitter account for the DC3 community implies that the account speaks for the community.  It seems evident to me from the IGF meetings that while there is amazing energy and goodwill to work together to build and grow our community, we do have lots of different points of view within the community.  I don't understand how a single twitter account will adequately represent that diversity.

An alternate strategy might be to agree on a hashtag for the community and to tweet from our individual identities using the hashtag when posting content relevant to DC3.  This would accommodate both diversity of viewpoint and local languages.

Regards to all... Steve

We should tweet in English only, so that most people understand the tweets all the time. Just like we are using the mailing list in English only. That doesn't prevent us from linking to tweets/documents/posts/research in other languages. The followers need to know what's the point of the tweet. Just like on the mailing list. We want to be understood, as widely as possible.

Hi Maureen, here is the platform that we will use in local servers of the new community networks that will be updated/created in our project in IFF/UENF universities in the beginning of the next year.

https://docs.moodle.org/dev/Releases

Moodle is the platform (open source) that already be used in these two institutions and now we are creating local servers in the communities to make ignition to produce local contents.

I want to know more about the platform that Jane said too and if its possible to put in local servers too, but, like Nico did, maybe we will need to create spaces to debate and construct the 4 topics of the pad.  I would like to suggest Loomio for organize the 4 topics, but, lets see what happens.

Thanks,

Best Regards

Marcelo

I agree with the comments, thanks Anya, you are totally correct.

I also agree the multi lingual issue, my sugesstion for the moment is to ask anyone that tweets from the account to take the moment to translate into the other two languages beside their native one, (I consider English, Spanish and Portuguese the main three), it's a little bit fuzzy but to put 140 characters into translation is not that hard, and if the person is not sure about the translation check with a partner.

Finally about the credentials I think this is the best option

Anyone with access should be aware that is our community manager and the expressions made here will be seeing as the opinion of the DC3 so... handle with caution.

If other trusted people want the password for the account, please let me know. I want this account to be an account of our community. :)

I agree with Anya's comments. The account was created by Raoul "in the

heat of the moment" during the IGF, but I think it's good to have some

discussion about the Coalition's presence in social networks  in

general, what will be the message and the importance of localization.

We need to keep this in our agenda.

For the time being, Anya's concern regarding the phrase "We are building

a community driven internet" and her proposal to change this for: "We

are building a community driven networks" is an important and easy to

solve issue. Similar concerns came up many times during the IGF.

I propose if no-one disagrees with this change, to implement it. If

anyone disagrees, please explain :)

Cheers!

Nico
