We (LACNIC) are having our September conference in Montevideo. If there is enough interest and enough participants to have a meeting, I’d be glad to find a conference room.

Hi Sylvia –

Absolutely we could use the ISOC office conference room on any day.

We have an office in the Old Town area – not far from Tram and Bus lines!

Luca, If you are planning to ask the IGF secretariat to use the lunch break for your event, you need to send a separate request. For Day -1 (on day 0 many of us will have conflicting events). There are many other activities that use meeting rooms during lunch breaks (like the GISWatch launch, the Seed Alliance Awards, other book launches, etc). Better not to assume that you will have the room ;)

It will be great to have a community meeting before the IGF –maybe the day before-. After the IGF will be very difficult. As for travel to Trieste before, that will be awesome, but in my case I will not be able to justify the trip. Great for those that are looking for training, but not necessarily for a larger support group.

ISOC has a nice office in Geneva, and some of the meeting rooms can accommodate a group of a similar size than the one that met in Guadalajara. Jane, will that be possible if the IGF secretariat cannot confirm space at the Palais for day -1? –just saying-

Regards,

Sylvia

Hi Luca –

That sounds like a great idea for IGF.  We have some rooms reserved – thus my thought about some fellowships.  Still an option…

Another option to include or not – would be a CN/GAIA workshop in Trieste just before IGF.

ICTP has space and we can consider helping people with fellowships.  The challenge is that folks would need to obtain visas for Geneva (ICTP can help with Italy, but those visas have to be limited to the timeframe of the meeting.

ICTP (Ermanno and Marco) recently helped us with an excellent training workshop/network set-up in Kenya.

A cross between GAIA and hands-on training could be arranged the week before IGF.  Those that want to (and that have visas) could travel up to Geneva (trains are handy or buses).

Food for thought…

Hi Jane,

I think it is a good idea to have big meet-up but I we should also consider that Geneva is not the easiest place to organise events (space is very pricy and the fact that IGF is right before Christmas does not help extend travel)

An option we could consider is to organise some sort of “Community Connectivity Luncheon” to extend the DC3 meeting during the 90-minute long lunch. This would allow to add tutorials and a short unconference and would be pretty easy to set up.  If we ask the Secretariat to schedule the DC3 session before lunch, we could extend the session and have a 3 hour long event allowing more interactions.

What do you think?

Best

Luca

Hi Luca –

We met the same fate with our ISOC/APC CN Proposal – it included a Panel + 3 tutorials throughout the week.

I think there is a lot of merit in another big meet up with CN colleagues.

And, wonder if we had some tutorials for folks (on the margin, Unconference) would folks also want to participate in that?

Tech

Biz Case/Sustainability

Policy/Reg

ISOC likely will be able to bring some people – we would put out a call for fellowships.

Would this also be something we could build in?

Congratulations to Bruno Vianna and Marcelo Saldanha!

Hi all,

This is to inform you that, unfortunately, the workshop proposal on Sustainable Connectivity has not been accepted by the MAG (the IGF programme Committee).

However, the topics included  in the workshop proposal (and more) can still be discussed at the DC3 annual session. All persons interested in joining the session can submit a short for the DC3 report ( see Call for Papers http://tinyurl.com/DC3callforpapers ).

Moreover, the workshop proposal on community connectivity submitted by Bruno Vianna and Marcelo Saldanha was accepted. Parabéns Bruno e Saldanha!! http://www.intgovforum.org/multilingual/content/igf-2017-ws-111-financing-and-building-sustainable-community-networks-the-coolab-experience

So there will be several occasions to discuss CN at IGF in December.

All the best

Luca
