Dear all,

Great to see that so many good ideas are already emerging from the list!

Leandro, many thanks for the very useful info. This is exactly the kind of resources we need! The GAIA workshop looks interesting: do you know if the sessions will be live-streamed? Perhaps, video recordings will be published?

Usually IGF Dynamic Coalitions have two or three coordinators: it would be very nice to have also a woman amongst the coordinators, in order to have more gender balance. Should any ladies be interested in being a co-coordinator, be my guest J

ACTION PLAN

Below the current draft (feel free to modify it using the pad)

The Dynamic Coalition on Connected Communities (DC3) emerged as an outcome of the IGF workshop 223 "Community Networks: a Revolutionary Paradigm", held in João Pessoa, during the 10th IGF.

The DC3 has been created in order to foster multistakeholder analysis of the various types and models of community networks, with the aim of identifying and promoting best practices and sustainable approaches to Internet connectivity in the context of communities.

The DC3 participants will foster joint efforts aimed at:

Dear Nico and all, congratulations for the initiative.

Let me introduce to save you from an extra email :-). I got your email through APC last night, the same night that we had the award ceremony in Brussels where the guifi.net community network got the European Broadband Award from the European Commission for its “innovative model of financing, business and investment”
https://ec.europa.eu/digital-agenda/en/news/five-projects-got-first-ever-european-broadband-award
The video about guifi.net: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD3HYeD4Lm4

A detailed research paper that describes its socio-economic and governance model: http://people.ac.upc.edu/leandro/pubs/crowds-guifi-en.pdf and in spanish too: http://people.ac.upc.edu/leandro/pubs/crowds-guifi-es.pdf
One of the many contributions to the guifi.net network and model comes from the collaboration between Pangea.org, UPC.edu and the guifi.net community, that I belong to.
We have the http://community-lab.net testbed for experimentation, and an upcoming research project: netcommons.eu all working with community networks.

You can count on us to contribute and help to your great initiative.

Linked to this, there is the GAIA effort (ISOC/IRTF, web and mailing list) in the next GAIA workshop (London, Nov 30, co-located with the ACM-DEV conference) we’ll have a world-cafe style discussion on socio-economic or business/sustainability models of infrastructures and services for GAIA. Guifi.net, among other initiatives, will be there. Davide from Deloitte who was participating/leading the APC Infrastructure Sharing report will join the workshop and share his views there. You're welcome to join. If you plan to be there just let me know.

All the best, Leandro.

Hi all,

First of all welcome to this list that we are hosting in support of Luca
Belli's initiative to create this Dynamic Coalition on Connected
Communities (DC3), in the context of the IGF.

He has also created a pad so we can work together on a short document to
describe what this Coalition will be about:

https://public.etherpad-mozilla.org/p/dc_on_connected_communities

Please review it and feel free to edit there, add your own ideas and
comment in this list.

I think it could be interesting to add a paragraph or short list of
specific subjects we are interested in exploring further, like spectrum,
community licences, organizational and business models, technologies
involved, etc.

Welcome, and let's make this work!

Cheers,
Nico
