The first annual ACM SIGCAS Conference on Computing and Sustainable Societies (COMPASS 2018) invites you to join us at at Facebook (Menlo Park, CA) and The Tech Museum of Innovation (San Jose, CA)  from June 20th to June 22nd, 2018. The first day of the conference will be at The Tech Museum, and the latter two days will be at Facebook.  ACM COMPASS is a re-creation of the ACM DEV conference, which was held annually between 2010 and 2016. The new conference expands the focus of the original conference to explicitly welcome work on underrepresented communities worldwide and to include work on sustainability. The proceedings include 39 papers (https://acmcompass.org/papers) and 10 notes (https://acmcompass.org/cfn/) in the areas of sustainability, development, and data science. Some particular works of note for the DC3 community include Adaptive Threshold Setting for Determining Spectrum Occupancy in TV White Space (note), DIY Model for Mobile Network Deployment: A Step Towards 5G for All (note), Information-Centric Multi-Access Edge Computing Platform for Community Mesh Networks (paper), and Nation-State Hegemony in Internet Routing (paper).

We also have open slots available for poster presentations of works-in-progress. If you’re interested in attending and submitting a proposal, please reach out to Nithya (nithyasamba@google.com) with your poster title and a brief (1-2 page) write up detailing the project.

Registration is now open, with the early registration deadline May 15th, 2-18. There are also  a few travel awards (max of $500) available. Preference will be given to presenting authors, international attendees, students, or first timers to COMPASS/ICTD/DEV.
