_______________________________________________Dear all,
As the IGF is approaching, I just wanted to share the updated agenda of the DC3 Session COMMUNITY NETWORKS: When The Unconnected Build Connectivity and remind you not to forget IGF registration https://www.intgovforum.org/multilingual/content/igf-2018-registration
Here is the link to the DC3 session https://www.intgovforum.org/multilingual/content/community-networks-when-the-unconnected-build-connectivity-dc3
I have also the great pleasure to announce that the "The Community Network Manual” which is the 2018 DC3 outcome will be released as a joint publication of the ITU, FGV and ISOC. The book is going to be finalised by tomorrow and will be send to press by Friday to be ready for the IGF. Of course, free copies of the volume will be distributed at the session (courtesy of ISOC) and the book will be released under Creative Commons License.
The IGF Secretariat has requested we identify 3 messages before the session. It is a quite curious request, as we cannot identify “messages” before having a debate but as we have to comply with UN formalities (although probably no one is even going to read the content of the “messages”), I suggest we propose something based on the session workshop description.
My proposal is to utilise the following 3 “messages”:
1. Community networks (CNs) improve connectivity while empowering Internet users. Community networks rely on the active participation of local communities in the design, development and management of network infrastructure as a common resource.
2. CNs give rise to new infrastructures, new governance models and new business opportunities and facilitate the free flow of information and knowledge, filling the lacunae left by the traditional Internet access-provision paradigm.
- The Community Network Manual is the 2018 outcome of the Dynamic Coalition on Community Connectivity (DC3). Its goal is to provide guidance on how to build, organise and deploy CNs. It offers toolkits, guidelines and instructions to be used by all interested stakeholders for the concrete constructions of such networks. All interested stakeholder are invited to join DC3 members for presentation of the CN Manual and to freely share it.
Please feel free to share any comments and suggestions
All the best
