we did something similar in Guadalajara, without graphic glamour :) but it worked. We just printed a page listing all CN activities and handed them out in each session. I believe it worked well. Most sessions were packed.

Do we have such list of CN activities already?

Cheers!
Nico

Glenn, Jane and all,

I think a joint CN marketing campaign is a great idea.

Is there time to produce a joint flyer (something like CNs @ IGF or something along these lines)?

There are many CN related documents to be released (that you listed below) and several sessions that could also be listed all together. I do not think there is more than 10 items involved and should be relatively easy to compile.

Is there any volunteer (with decent graphic skills)?

We could add logos of the involved/interested orgs, if needed

At the IGF, we could record some short videos to promote the material (I remember Glenn proposed to record videos some weeks ago)

All the best

Luca

Great idea, Glenn.

-There also will be a LAC CN paper released (Spanish first/English later in the week) during the IGF week that FGV and Redes/Rhizomatica have shepherded and written with support from ISOC and APC.

-A Spectrum paper (written by Steve S, Carlos Rey-M, and Mike Jensen and sponsored/herded by ISOC) discussion draft that will be the baseline for a panel just after the DC-3 panel on Monday, 12.30-13.30 in Room VII

-And, the excellent GISWatch from APC has over 50 case-studies about CNs and that will be released during IGF!

Perhaps there could be a great vid mash-up on the resources coming out that week!

Great  achievement.   What is the marketing strategy for the  publication.  We should do a short video interview in Spanish and English at the IGF  Paris.

Dear all,

As some of you may have already seen on twitter, yesterday evening I received the finalised pdf of the Community Network Manual, which will be printed just in time for when I will board for Paris J

As I previously mentioned, it is a pleasure to announce that the Community Network Manual is published in partnership by FGV, ITU and ISOC and features some truly excellent contributions from DC3 members, analysing how to build Community Networks and how to make them scalable, sustainable and law-compliant.

As a reminder, the book will be launched at our session on Community Connectivity: When the Unconnected Build Connectivity, on Monday 12 November, at 11:20.

I look forward to meeting you there and I will bring as many copies as possible (at least 80) so that you can all have one. Of course, as all previous volumes, the book will be freely available, under Creative Commons License, and the online version will be released during the DC3 session.

As a teaser a further, below you will find the table of content as well as the early praise by Bruno Ramos (ITU) and Andrew Sullivan (ISOC)

All the best

Luca

“Community networks represent a valuable alternative model that deserves to be explored to improve access to Information and Communication Technologies to underserved communities worldwide. ITU is committed to connecting the entire world’s people and this book and the work of the UN IGF Dynamic Coalition on Community Connectivity offer inspiring and transparent guidance to foster digital inclusion.”

Bruno Ramos, Director for the Americas Regional Office of the International Telecommunication Union

“Community Networks offer a credible solution for building a digital future that puts people first. This volume is a testament to the excellent work of the IGF Dynamic Coalition on Community Connectivity. It is a long-awaited guide that will allow many to participate in the Internet’s evolution, building an Internet for everyone..”

Andrew Sullivan President and Chief Executive Officer of the Internet Society
