I have tentative plans to be there.

Cheers... Steve

Assunto: RightsCon Brussels -- Important Notification

Dear Program Session Organizer,

Thank you very much for your submission to host a session at RightsCon Brussels (March 29 - 31, 2017).

The Program Committee has reviewed your proposal, and I’m very pleased to inform you that your session has been accepted in the program! You should be really pleased, as there was intense competition with more than 400 proposals from around the world for only a limited number of spaces. Congratulations!

This is an initial notification so that you can commence your planning and logistics for the conference. Next week you will receive another notification that will provide additional details on your specific session, including recommendations from our program committee.

VISA LETTERS:

If you require a personalized invitation letter to RightsCon for obtaining Schengen visa, please fill out our visa letter request form and we will send you the corresponding letter. Also, please familiarize yourself with our Travel and Visa document and find some visa-related tips here.

ACCOMMODATIONS:

As RightsCon Brussels is being held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, we've negotiated special room rates for RightsCon participants! To make a reservation, please use the reservation portal here. We've also assembled a map of recommended hotels in proximity to the Crowne Plaza, which you can find here.

TICKETS:

We're absolutely committed to ensuring that everyone can participate, but due to the nature of this conference, in which a high proportion of people attending are speaking or session hosts, we are asking that those with the means to do so pay for tickets. This allows us to fund activists and advocates from around the world.

In our followup email next week, we will be providing you with some discount code options, as to ensure that the ticket price does not prohibit your participation (or your speakers' participation) at RightsCon. We will also be extending the early bird pricing deadline.

If you have any questions please let us know, and we look forward to working with you!

Best,

Nick

This aweeesome Luca, I'm working side to side with Nicolas Pace on the alliance of the University of Guadalajara and local communities to built a pilot community network... things are looking very good and we will probably have an outcome by February, and I think this is a very interesting case of  sustainable expansion of connectivity.

Let me know how we can help.

Warm regards

Hi all,

I submitted a RightsCon proposal but I didn’t have time to crowdsource the proposal through the DC3 list (I remembered about the call for proposals on the 4th and the deadline was the 5th )

The proposal is below. Should it be approved, I will be very happy to involve DC3 members in the session.

All the best

Luca

Sustainable Connectivity : Expanding Infrastructure and Empowering People

According to ITU figures, 4 billion people are still unconnected to the Internet. Digital divides are particularly sharp with regard to rural communities and low-income populations. Internet access is today’s most democratic and cost-effective means to gain education, work, and express one’s opinion. Inclusion of all individuals helps society go forward  This session aims at exploring different strategies that could be elaborated and implemented to expand connectivity in a sustainable and inclusive world.

The session will adopt a critical approach in order to analyse three main categories of strategies that have been experimented so far to expand connectivity. The categorisation is based on the stakeholders that are at the origin and that lead the implementation of the connectivity strategies. Notably, the panellists will debate the pros and cons of a variety of initiatives whose stated purpose is to connect the unconnected, such as:

* State-driven initiatives, e.g. public investments and universal access funds;

* Business-driven initiatives, including traditional operator-led strategies and recent platform-led strategies, such as zero-rating plans;

* Community-driven initiatives e.g. community networks.

During the first segment of the session, the panellists will provide short and punchy presentations. During the second segments, the speakers will engage in a dynamic discussion with the workshop participants, trying to put forward recommendations for sustainable expansion of connectivity.

If we didn't make one, it's too late now. The deadline was on the 5th.
