I was looking at the site earlier today and was thinking about the concept of "Affordable Internet". The problem is in the metaphor as the Internet being a consumable like electricity rather than a technique for using the facilities to communicate. Sort of like affordable alphabets. And many other possibilities are available, including exploiting untapped resources such as abandoned copper infrastructure or unexploited spectrum, as stressed by Bob. I would be more than happy to convey any other example, opinion or suggestion you have as regards alternative approaches that should be considered to foster connectivity. The schedule is given at http://ictd2016.info/schedule/ One thing as Raul mentioned that we don't have one platform where we all can meet, discuss and share our ideas and challenges too. Affordable access with appropriate accessibility is one challenge that is not being recognised by larger group. One idea you can stress that if A4AI can support us in organising global summit on "Community Networks". Hi Ritu, Thanks for the inputs and suggestions. I agree that some commitment from A4AI to promote debate on and development of CN would be an excellent result from the meeting. Perhaps we may aim at the organisation of a miny CN Summit within the IGF. Perhaps an IGF pre-event? The IGF already attract many of the stakeholders who may be interested. Let's see. Hi Nico and all, 90 First, some info regarding the A4AI meeting - Advisory Council members were very open to the idea of considering (and advocating for) community networks as a concrete possibility to foster "afforable Internet" - AC members seemed also open to the establishment of a platform allowing interested stakeholders\individuals to make suggestions on how to enhace the A4AI working plan. - The idea of an IGF session was very well received but I think A4AI members are more interested on a more general session (perhaps a main session) on "affordable Internet" in which CN can be discussed amongst other strategies, rahter than a specific session on CN Second, as regards the idea of a CN summit at IGF (or something along these lines) we have sevral options. - to organise a pre-event on Day 0. This would be my favourite opion because we could have a entire aftrnoon at our disposal and we could discuss strategies, besides having presentations - moreover, as an IGF Dynamic Coalition, we are entiled to organise a 90-minute session. I think it would be interesting to elaborate a DC3 report (as we discussed some time ago) so that the co-authors of the report's chapters could present their submissions during the DC3 session. All DC3 members, but also non-members, would be allowed to submitt short papers. I will share a draft call for papers on the list in the forthcoming days. - lastly, we could propose an IGF workshop. The Call for proposals will be open until 6 June.
