Both Scuttlebot and Dat have LAN peer auto-discovery. Although cabal apps are quite new, I'd say they're pretty stable, given they are very simple. I believe they are in English only.

Also, I added Twisted, which showed up when I searched for "chat" in the
LibreMesh packages. I figure a non-p2p option meets my needs if the
server can run on a LibreMesh router.
