The existing partial translation en_config.txt contains differences in content to the Spanish original, which I cannot evaluate

Yes, lime-autogen is the configuration that is generated from the other config files as a first step in lime-config, and is what it is used by lime-config to configure the system. The idea to have it exposed is that you can see exactly what is the result of lime-node+lime-community+lime-defaults.
