Thanks for the clarification Sylvia, I wasn't sure if it was open to

Perhaps then if anyone knows of a US-based CN, forward it to them.

Subject: ** APPLY NOW!!! Applications Open for the 2017 Ambassadors to the Internet Governance Forum (Geneva, Switzerland) **
Hello All,
Please see below call for applications for the IGF Ambassadors.
Can you please see share with your connections and networks?
Many thanks and regards,
Niel
================================================
Dear All,
The Internet Society is inviting applications for its 2017 Ambassadors to the Internet Governance Forum (IGF). IGF Ambassadors will gain valuable insight and experience through their exposure to a range of stakeholders and discussions from numerous disciplines across the Internet ecosystem and benefit from their immersion into the IGF week of activities.
The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) serves to bring people together from various stakeholder groups as equals, in discussions on public policy issues relating to the Internet. While there are no negotiated outcomes, the IGF informs and inspires those with policy-making power in both the public and private sectors. At their annual meeting delegates discuss, exchange information and share good practices with each other. The IGF facilitates a common understanding of how to maximize Internet opportunities and address risks and challenges that arise.
Ambassadorships will be awarded through a competitive application process. The Internet Society is currently accepting applications for the following:
* 12th Annual Internet Governance Forum, December 17-21, 2017, Geneva, Switzerland
Information about the programme and links to apply can be found at: http://bit.ly/1TxHeuA.
Applications will close on 6 August, 2017 and successful candidates will be notified on 28 August, 2017.
I encourage you to apply for this opportunity or pass this information about the programme to individuals in your network that have a keen interest in the Internet governance and policy activities of the IGF.
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Niel Harper at harper(a)isoc.org.

ICT is clearly a game changer both for on-grid and off-grid areas of the
world. With smartphones, people in remote, "last mile" areas are
increasingly gaining access to the internet and gaining access to
information, social media, entertainment, and communication with far-flung
family and friends. But mobile phones aren't the only way that ICT is
changing lives in off-grid areas. In this webinar, we'll be joined by
several speakers who will bring their expertise in ICT in off-grid contexts
to the table. We'll address a series of questions including: how can ICT /
mobile technology be used to improve development outcomes? How can it
impact health, education, and agriculture and livelihoods? What is next on
the horizon for disruptive ICT technologies for off-grid communities?
Join us for this exciting and important webinar, where we'll be joined by
the following speakers:
- Jay Evans, Medic Mobile
- Richard Mori, Mesh Power
- Suhas P. Wani, ICRISAT / CGIAR

*About LCEDN*
The Low Carbon Energy for Development Network (LCEDN) brings together
researchers, policy-makers and practitioners from across the United Kingdom
to expand research capacity around low-carbon development in the countries
of the Global South.
It links existing expertise in international development, renewable energy
transitions and science and technology studies in order to enhance and
support interdisciplinary research, learning and policy-formation for this
increasingly important and rapidly changing field.
The LCEDN comprises internationally-renowned universities and thriving
energy research institutes, alongside partnerships with the UK’s Department
of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and expanding worldwide associations.
This enables a unique environment for dialogue, discussion and the
generation of ideas for funding.
*About Smart Villages*
The Smart Villages Initiative is a global initiative that aims to provide
policymakers, donors, and development agencies concerned with rural energy
access across the Global South with new insights on the real barriers to
energy access in villages in developing countries – technological,
financial and political – and how they can be overcome. We are have chosen
to focus on remote off-grid villages, where local solutions (home- or
institution-based systems, and mini-grids) are both more realistic and
cheaper than national grid extension. Our concern is to ensure that energy
access results in development and the creation of ‘smart villages’ in which
rural communities have access to healthcare, education, clean water, ICT,
and livelihoods. See our recent publications and workshop reports here:
