Dear Michael,
There is ample potential to BUILD IN sustainability as Community Networks
are relatively (and considerably) new, and we could design anew, as from a
blank sheet of paper if necessary. If 99% of the energy is consumed by the
infrastructure, we could think of design innovations such as inland cable
landing stations and low power Point to Point towers and wifi routers.
( Aside from the power issues, there is the issue of radiation from towers
and mobile phones which for some reason or other, does not get attention )
