Hi Jane and Leandro,
The wndw case studies and the report you are preparing in the context of
the netCommons.eu I believe can be great input sources, and can surely
help structure the information.
The idea I'm proposing is to have the DC3 keep a permanent database on
community networks. Ideally, this database would be maintained with the
sustained collaboration of communities. The purpose of this permanent
database is to keep a clear understanding of the state of community
networking worldwide and it's evolution over time.
I believe keeping this sort of systematic information can help us
identify common needs, challenges, peering and collaboration
opportunities, best practices, etc. It can also help in policy
discussion, when regulators ask about what's the real impact of
community networking and why it should be taken into account.
Leandro, maybe from the questionnaire you built for the report and some
additional brainstorming here in the DC3 we can come up with a structure
to build this permanent database, feeding it at first with the
information we already have and then permanently inviting community
network projects to add their case to the database and keep it up to
date. Is the questionnaire available ATM or should we wait for the
report publication?
Cheers!
Nico

Hi Nico and all, we've been working on that kind
of studies for the last
year. We're about to finalize one first release of that report, and with
it, a set of tables about community initiatives, and the result of a
questionnaire to about 20+ community networks (now in the context of the
netCommons.eu project). Give us a couple of weeks to complete and polish
it. The plan is to then work for another 3 months on this and release a
second extended version.
BTW in the coming days we'll publish a web site with links, videos,
slides, etc about the workshop on Community Infrastructures we had
yesterday. Today about to leave for the SAX 2016 (annual
guifi.net
gathering). You can also follow in guifi TV (

Kind regards, Leandro.

Hi Nico –
This is a great idea.
Also know that there are some good case studies in this book:

Hi all,
I was wondering if it would be an interesting initiative for the DC3 to
try to collect information on existing CN projects so we can better
understand the differences and similarities, strengths and challenges, etc.
Ideally, I'd think of this as a sort of census that can also be relevant
when discussing policy.
I've added a pad which I propose we can reuse for drafting Wiki pages
before creating them directly on the Wiki, for easier simultaneous
collaboration:
https://pad.codigosur.org/DC3WikiDrafts
I've added some pointers to what I think could be interesting
information for this "census".
If you believe this would be interesting, let's complete that template.
Are there any local databases or census of community networks that you
know of in your areas?
Cheers,
