Engineering for Change has partnered with Dr. Henry Louie, Co-Founder of
Kilowatts For Humanity, to bring our community a unique and comprehensive
webinar series to tackle some of the most pressing issues in energy for
under-served communities.

presented
by Dr. Henry Louie will help participants:
- Understand the need for improved electricity access in rural
communities
- Learn the fundamental principles of off-grid system components such as
batteries, solar arrays, hydro and wind turbines, and biomass systems and
how they can be combined to provide reliable electricity
- Find out how off-grid systems are designed, including best practices
in load and resource estimation, component sizing and project life-cycle
considerations
Join us for the second part of the series, Why the Power Grid Isn't
Everywhere: The Role of Grid Extension in Electricity Access, on November
14, and scroll down to view the first webinar, along with registration
details for all upcoming webinars in the series.

*Why the Power Grid Isn't Everywhere: The Role of Grid Extension in
Electricity Access*

Why is it that, after more than 100 years of effort, power lines have not
made their way to every community on earth? Is it possible that certain
communities will “leap frog” the power grid and instead use off-grid
systems? This webinar describes the important and sometimes overlooked role
of grid extension and grid enhancement in providing electricity access to
remote communities. We will explore the advantages and disadvantages of
grid extension compared to using off-grid systems. The webinar covers
economic models for grid extension, and the technical challenges of
supplying remote communities with grid-connected power.
Please remember to join us November 14th (Wednesday) at 11:00 AM EST.
*In this webinar you will learn:*
- the role of grid extension in achieving universal electricity access
- the conditions that make off-grid systems preferable over grid
extension
- the basic considerations in distribution line design
- how to develop a cost model for grid extension and use it compare
electrification options
