Hi everyone,
One of my biggest passions within the Internet ecosystem is sustainable
accessibility. I am organizing and moderating my first roundtable as a
community member next week: Workshop 11
<https://eurodigwiki.org/wiki/WS_11_2017> at the European Dialogue on
Internet Governance (EuroDIG).
Especially given the current political climate, the timely workshop will
focus on sustainable access and digital pollution, specifically how *we
cannot legitimately address Internet access without addressing
sustainability*. Our keynote speaker is Dr. Mike Hazas of the University of
Lancaster, a sustainable ICT researcher and one of the people who
originally inspired me to start investigating the relationship between the
Internet and sustainability.
*We are also going to have on-site e-waste recycling bins available in case
anyone has e-waste they need to discard but are unsure of how or where to
do so, so please bring it with you to Tallinn if you are traveling to
EuroDIG.*
In case any of you are interested in this session, join us either in person

closer to our communities to find this models within our communities!

@Nicolas: Thanks for the encouragement! And indeed, you are very right.
With that said, I think we are in a prime position to advocate for the
energy component of sustainable access since I would wager it is difficult
at best to connect a rural/remote/underserved community without considering
how to electrify the network.

Great topic Michael, looking forward to hearing this roundtable, this is an
essential issue when addressing Original communities and
Indigenous, and it's not easy to sort it out.

One of my biggest passions within the Internet ecosystem is sustainable accessibility. I
am organizing and moderating my first roundtable as a community member next week: Workshop

@Maureen: Thank you for the support! Indeed, I am trying to hammer that
point home (and is already something that this group is well-aware of):
unless electrification and sustainable energy is part of the solution, then
it will be impossible to connect communities.
@Jane: Thank you too! I know that Leandro and some others have submitted
some proposals related to this for this year's IGF. I hope they get
selected. Either way, we'll keep the group informed.
