Dynamic Coalition on Innovative Approaches to Connecting the Unconnected

They will be having a session right after one of ours: http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/documents/igf-meeting/igf-2016/910-dc-connec… I see Facebook, Verizon and the World Economic Forum as stakeholders, so I guess it's quite a different approach to what we are trying to accomplish, but it's interesting to have this in our radar. I have written to Anriette (APC) to ask if she can share some more detail on what's the plan with this DC. Cheers! Nico

Guadalajara Declaration and DC3 Report

Hi all, Here is the v.3.0 of the Declaration https://pad.codigosur.org/GuadalajaraDeclaration I think we have a very good text that we can submit to the IGF Secretariat as a DC3 outcome, together with the DC3 Report (or at least the Outline of the Report, in light of the fact that the Report is 172-page long) You can find the Outline of the Report here https://public.etherpad-mozilla.org/p/DC3_Report_Outline FYI, free hard-copies of the report will be distributed at the DC3 session (the printing and editing is sponsored by CTS/FGV). The Report will also be available online under Creative Commons License. Regarding the Declaration, although I was initially favourable to the use of square km rather than miles, some of you (particularly Bob) made some very good points on the usefulness of adopting/enhancing existing terminology. In this perspective, I think if could be wiser to speak about "first square mile" (see Preamble) Lastly, as you may recall, the IGF Secretariat asked to submit 5 statements that describe our outcome and can be used to request feedback on the DC3 outcome to the IGF participants. I suggest we simply use the preamble and the 4 paragraphs of the Declaration as statements. Let me know if you have different suggestions on the matter. EU Broadband Awards 2016 - CN again

Community networks again among the best broadband initiatives in Europe ! I glad to read that RemIX (Future-proof and quality of service) and FibreOptic (Socio-economic impact and affordability) got the EU Broadband Awards 2016, both community initiatives! Roger Baig is in touch with HUBS about RemIX and William came to a couple of SAX guifi.net meetings. I’ve never heard before about the FibreOptic community initiative but the description sounds good. DC on Public Access in Libraries at 15:00-16:30 on Dec. 7. Should tie in as public access at libraries and other centers builds on approach of connecting community anchor institutions. A common infrastructure strategy in US with anchors as intermediate end points in open middle mile network builds. Serving priority populations in e-gov, education, health, etc, while also lowering cost/risk of last mile investment. All welcome! Short version of the Declaration for IGF Survey

Hi all, The IGF secretariat requested a shorter version of the DC3 Declaration that can more easily fit into the IGF Survey. The IGF Survey was first introduced last year and aims at allowing IGF participants to express feedback on DC outcomes FYI, here are some examples of DC outcomes already included into surveys https://www.intgovforum.org/multilingual/content/surveys As you can imagine, it is not possible to reduce/simplify too much the content of the Declaration but I have tried to do some cuts. See here https://public.etherpad-mozilla.org/p/short_version_of_the_declaration_for_… Please do not hesitate to further reduce. Help with this is much appreciated. Also, please note that both the Outcome paper and the DC3 report will include the entire Declaration. The shortened version is ONLY needed to make the Declaration fit into the (quite limited) format of the IGF survey. I will send the short version to the secretariat on 15 November. Any help reducing the text by then is very welcome. As an FYI (is FYI understood outside the US?) I'm scheduled to speak to http://www.tedxbeaconstreet.com/ and will talk about connectivity as infrastructure. I'm planning to talk about why we are limiting ourselves when we rely on a telecommunications framing for connectivity and instead need to think about creating opportunity. I also plan to write a companian essay. It won't quite align with the current DC3 document but I hope it helps us more towards creating our own connected future ... and more.
