Hi Steve,
You've made a good point and what I had in mind, was to promote community
networks when we really had something to say, like once the Guadalajara
declaration was ready, or when we got some other things done as a
collective or when there is something big happening in the #comcon -world.

It could also let our followers know, when we're gathering live or
virtually and inform them of new projects by our members.
You're absolutely right in being cautious about our tweets representing the
whole community and we definitely don't have to start tweeting all the
time. Only the obvious things that we can find common ground on.

Hi Maureen, here is the platform that we will use
in local servers of the
new community networks that will be updated/created in our project in
IFF/UENF universities in the beginning of the next year.

Moodle is the platform (open source) that already be used in these two
institutions and now we are creating local servers in the communities to
make ignition to produce local contents.
I want to know more about the platform that Jane said too and if its
possible to put in local servers too, but, like Nico did, maybe we will
need to create spaces to debate and construct the 4 topics of the pad. I
would like to suggest Loomio for organize the 4 topics, but, lets see what
happens.

I agree with the comments, thanks Anya, you are totally correct.
I also agree the multi lingual issue, my sugesstion for the moment is to
ask anyone that tweets from the account to take the moment to translate
into the other two languages beside their native one, (I consider English,
Spanish and Portuguese the main three), it's a little bit fuzzy but to put
140 characters into translation is not that hard, and if the person is not
sure about the translation check with a partner.
Finally about the credentials I think this is the best option

Anyone with access should be aware that is our community manager and the

information and communication technologies that
can complement and/or go
beyond Internet (where Internet connectivity is
just not feasible yet or
does not meet the community's needs).
Moreover, I think we should stay
inclusive and not exclude anyone working on
community connectivity
solutions. My suggestion would be to change the

My second comment is about languages. Many
community networks that were
presented at DC3/IGF sessions are from the Global
South and are local.
Moreover, one message that i took back from IGF
was that local culture
and local context are vital to address the needs
of local communities. I
guess that the question we should ask here, is
which purpose this
twitter account is to serve and who do we address
with all that
knowledge we want to share about community
connectivity. Therefore I
think that even if we decide to keep this account
English only, we need
to think how can we include all those other
languages and not only
provide information about community connectivity
but make it accessible
to the people from all over the world in their
languages. Again, for me
this means being inclusive.

I would suggest we use the dc3 account to share "official" info (in any language
we want) such as dc3 documents or dc3 meetings.
I agree with Steve's comment that we can use an hashtag to provide more visibility to
all dc3 members, while respecting diversity of all CNs
I think we all agree the main purpose of the twitter account/hashtag should be to make our
initiaitves more visible and coordinate, rather than speaking on behalf of all members.

The only reason I was insisting on English, is because a lot of followers
stop following the account if there's tweets that they don't understand.
I'm only thinking from the popularity aspect here. For example, if there's
new research in Portuguese, we can introduce that in English in our tweet
and link it to the Portuguese content.

Hi Maureen, here is the platform that we will use
in local servers of
the new community networks that will be updated/created in our project in
IFF/UENF universities in the beginning of the next year.

Moodle is the platform (open source) that already be used in these two
institutions and now we are creating local servers in the communities to
make ignition to produce local contents.
I want to know more about the platform that Jane said too and if its
possible to put in local servers too, but, like Nico did, maybe we will
need to create spaces to debate and construct the 4 topics of the pad. I
would like to suggest Loomio for organize the 4 topics, but, lets see what
happens.

I agree with the comments, thanks Anya, you are totally correct.
I also agree the multi lingual issue, my sugesstion for the moment is to
ask anyone that tweets from the account to take the moment to translate
into the other two languages beside their native one, (I consider English,
Spanish and Portuguese the main three), it's a little bit fuzzy but to put
140 characters into translation is not that hard, and if the person is not
sure about the translation check with a partner.
Finally about the credentials I think this is the best option

Anyone with access should be aware that is our community manager and the
expressions made here will be seeing as the opinion of the DC3 so... handle

discussion about the Coalition's presence in social networks in
general, what will be the message and the importance of localization.
We need to keep this in our agenda.
For the time being, Anya's concern regarding the phrase "We are building
a community driven internet" and her proposal to change this for: "We
are building a community driven networks" is an important and easy to
solve issue. Similar concerns came up many times during the IGF.
I propose if no-one disagrees with this change, to implement it. If
anyone disagrees, please explain :)

Hello DC3 members,
first I'd like to briefly introduce myself.
My name is Anya, I am part
of the Fonias Jurua research project at the State
University of Sao
Paulo (UNESP), Brazil. Our project is part of
Dynamic Coalition on
Community Connectivity (DC3) and we also wrote a
report "“Beyond the
last mile: Fonias Juruá Project – an HF digital
radio network
experiment
in Amazon (Acre/Brazil)," presenting Amazon
Digital Radio Network using
High Frequency radio band in the Brazilian Amazon
forest.
I would like to make two point about the DC3
twitter account. First, is
about the description of the account that says
"DC3 is the twitter
account for Dynamic Coalition on Community
Connectivity. We are
building
a community driven internet." I cannot
totally agree with the second
sentence of the description, as I think it
doesn't boil down to
Internet
only. Our project is working on providing
communication infrastructure
and connectivity to the communities that are
living in the under served
areas without any means of communication.
Therefore our first goal is
to
provide connectivity over the HF radio band that
is the only feasible
solution in the given geographical location, and
based on this solution
we are planing to then connect these communities
to the Internet. I am
aware of other community networks that are
focused on providing local
mobile telephony(e.g. GSM) connectivity, like the
Rhizomatica and the
Zenzeleni projects. So I think this twitter
account should not be
limited to just Internet. To me it's about
ICT - including other
information and communication technologies that
can complement and/or
go
beyond Internet (where Internet connectivity is
just not feasible yet
or
does not meet the community's needs).
Moreover, I think we should stay
inclusive and not exclude anyone working on
community connectivity
solutions. My suggestion would be to change the
second sentence to
something like: "We are building a community
driven networks."
My second comment is about languages. Many
community networks that were
presented at DC3/IGF sessions are from the Global
South and are local.
Moreover, one message that i took back from IGF
was that local culture
and local context are vital to address the needs
of local communities.
I
guess that the question we should ask here, is
which purpose this
twitter account is to serve and who do we address
with all that
knowledge we want to share about community
connectivity. Therefore I
think that even if we decide to keep this account
English only, we need
to think how can we include all those other
languages and not only
provide information about community connectivity
but make it accessible
to the people from all over the world in their
languages. Again, for me
this means being inclusive.
