needs to be a deepening of understanding of power relationships and roles of different members of society in each region · CN definition to help people realise if they need to be part of the process · Energy on putting action on sensitive groups – to empower marginalised people in more roles · Technologies that can be made your own has an important role e.g. Alta Mundi · As a collective of CNs – need to reflect more on what it means to be more diverse and inclusive · Actions must be undertaken as close to the ground as possible e.g. local content process · Regional diversity: No representation of the Asia-Pacific region – must be addressed; note several examples from this region in GisWatch · Language diversity: Regional discussions are very important; therefore work at the regional level – before global level; noted that Francophone not represented – must be addressed; See Alta Mundi translation project – where communities undertook translation. · Race is also an issue to be addressed *Group: Policy * · Work at national and regional level to obtain access to fibre and spectrum – provide exemplars (write up cases) as to how this can be done for others to learn from · Similarly access to USFs – which must be more flexible in what they fund e.g. skills development, tech development · Spectrum Access: Has to be taken to regulators and a wider community of stakeholders; [CNSIG-Council] executive council expired

Hi all, Our current executive council mandates have expired and we haven't been able to organize a meeting so far. I propose some alternatives: 1) we agree on a meeting date during next week. 2) we renew our current mandates for another period. If someone cannot renew, we will need volunteers to cover the role(s) 3) we close shop :) Cheers! Nico

FYI -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Note on receiving Internet Society funds Date: Wed, 19 Jun 2019 12:56:51 +0000 (UTC) From: Christine Saegesser Baethge <mailer(a)isoc.org> Reply-To: Christine Saegesser Baethge <Saegesser(a)isoc.org> To: Nicolás Echániz <nicoechaniz(a)altermundi.net> Dear Colleagues, We’d like to touch base today as we do currently have a few Internet Society funding programmes open for which our Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are in principle eligible to apply (Admin funding and soon the Chapterthon as well as the Internet Society Foundations’ Beyond the Net programmes). As you most probably know, as of 2019, the Internet Society can, for accountability and liability reasons, only disburse funds to Chapters and SIGs that have an official bank account in their name. We do realise that this is a particular challenge to our Special Interest Groups that are global in nature and for whom the local legal registration as well as the opening of a bank account in their name is particularly tricky to sort out. We have over the last few months tried to gather information on how other organisations handle this situation, but came to the conclusion that we’re not the only ones with this challenge and are thus still looking for a viable solution going forward. While we’re working on a sustainable long term solution to this difficulty, the process that we suggest for 2019 for SIGs wishing to apply for Internet Society funding is that they identify a Chapter that is willing to receive the funds for the SIG. This however means that the funding MoU will be with the Chapter and the Chapter will be fully responsible for the funds received, including that they were spent in the manner described in the initial funding proposal. The Chapter needs to be aware of this. Before wiring the funds, the Internet Society would need to receive a written agreement/MoU between the Chapter and the SIG concerning these funds. Given that some of you have applied for Admin funding, we decided to re-open a 2nd round of applications for this programme later this year and encourage you to get prepared to re-apply in the manner explained above. We will keep you all updated on the exact timing of this 2nd round. Please do let us know if you have any questions in relation to this. We’d also like to use this opportunity to let you know that the responsibility of working with our Special Interest Groups is in the process of being transitioned from Kyle Shulman, who you all know well, to Evelyn Namara (namara(a)isoc.org).
