Hi Jenny!
Welcome to the list (and Council)
I just want to make sure there is no confusion going on here - as I, at
least, am a bit confused.
I think there is one discussion that happened in the Battlemeshes in
Berlin and Austria about where to do the next *Battlemesh* meeting, and
in Berlin I remember that India was one of the alternatives. But my
impression is that on this list, we are discussing the *ISOC* global and
latin american CN meetings.
Am I right? I got the impression that Monic also made this mix-up. Or
are they actually the same event? (which is not a bad idea)
Yes, I think we got a bit mixed up.
This global meeting for which we will need to push forward inside ISOC
to get the 2019 budget to include it in the year's plan is just an idea
for now. One I think we must materialize, but it's only starting to be
discussed.
The Battlemesh discussion on where to hold it's next meeting I
understand is a separate matter. Now if we all agree to merge Battlemesh
- or Cuddlemesh! as jenny proposed in other spaces - with the
ISOC/CNSIG summit, that would be great too, and we have plenty of time
to talk about this.
Regarding Sol's point to diversify continents, I too was curious as to
why ISOC is planning to support a regional meeting in Latin America
only, so I had a chat with Sebastian today. He informed me that regional
meetings will also be held in Africa and Asia. He will put me in contact
with the people who are already organizing those events so we can
discuss CNSIG involvement.
I'll let you all know as soon as I have more info on those events; then
we can plan for the CNSIG involvement in all three regions.
Cheers!
Nico

Hi all!
New to this group, but a relative 'intermediate' in the community
wireless realm.. As a relatively hasty intro, I work on the People's

Very happy to be here!
At the Battlemesh v10 in Austria
<https://www.battlemesh.org/BattleMeshV10> last year, I recall
multiple discussions re: hosting the next convening in possibly:
* Oakland, California (I'm a co-founder of the Omni Commons
<https://omnicommons.org>, a large collective space here that could
likely accommodate such an event) - this was largely disagreeable
given the US' stringent visa requirements for Central & South
Americans in particular - tho there is a growing North American
federation of community/mesh wireless networks and I'm looking
forward to the /State of Our Networks /conference
<https://ournetworks.ca> being hosted by Toronto Wireless in Canada
this
July!)http://coolab.org [i apologize in advance for using so
much nationalist/colonialist terminology :/ please help me improve!]
* Madurai region of India - large educational space proposed by
Senthil,. who gave this talk<http:///> at Battlemesh in 2017 on
working with a 200+ class of young women learning to code, and using
mesh to further the reach of educational curriculae in rural parts
of India -
http://openfreenet.org
* Several folks spoke from South America, if I recall
correctly...was it Gui or Nico Pace from Altermundi in Argentina?
** ... and Rodrigo from Brazil? [i know, it's a big place - but he
was working on building networks to connect favelas all over the
country..] - can't remember if he had a particular space in mind,
and he warned many areas (particularly Sao Paulo) can be quite
dangerous to tourists. -

Big fan of any options that entail my saving up to travel to either
South America or India toward building networks for a more libre future!

Hi Sol,
Thanks much. I am currently in San Francisco for ACM Compass. I

Hi all,
I support Monic's point about having the global summit in
India -
hosts
willing. I think its important that we diversify
(the
continent) and I
think the global South is a good place to focus
on.
To Nico's point on piggy-backing, Sarbani and Jaspreet, how do
you
feel
about hosting (with help) a CN global summit in
2019? If
interested, is
there any event on which we could plan this
Summit that could
make the
event better attendance/ lower cost?
Thanks, Sol
