Update:
[Forgot to mention I’m using SDK. This entire thread is for SDK. Have not tried with Chef
images]
Today I’ve tried it with absolute basic SDK firmware using no community profile at all. It
still doesn’t work. See previous email for steps to reproduce.
Here are logs for node [B] after step 7, so when it’s not working anymore:

There seem to be a heck of a lot of MAC ALREADY KNOWS errors.
I’ve tried restarting every entry in “startup” from LUCI but to no avail. I also executed
a kill -HUP on these two processes:
1208 root 1044 S /usr/sbin/alfred -i br-lan -m -b bat0
1210 root 1156 S /usr/sbin/batadv-vis -i bat0 -s
But I think I did something wrong because they didn’t come back up afterwards.
This is the routing table from LUCI:

I’d like to stress that even a test from LUCI’s diagnostics page fails, it’s not a client
routes issue.
From the client I can IPv6 ping the gateway node with no issues at all. BATMAN page shows
the gateway node in originators and not in gateways, but that also happens when everything
works, I’ve never seen the gateways table populated.
Only fix is a reboot, can’t figure out any other process to restart. Sometimes even that
is not enough, and I need to restart the actual gateway node.
I absolutely realize I’m sucking up a lot of energies and asking a lot of questions.
As promised, I’ve donated 100€ to support the project on Tip4Commit. I’ll be sure to come
back for more as soon as possible.
If there’s any other way I can contribute for support and - if these are confirmed as
being actual issues - fixes, please let me know.
As mentioned, we’re starting now to deploy test firmware on about 40 nodes that spread
around 300 houses. If there’s any way we can use these nodes to collect logs and
statistics, please let me know where to point them.
Thank you so much
Nk

Hi
I have a strange issue where sometimes, seemingly after a new gateway appears on the
network, other routers that were offline during the change, cannot route internet traffic
correctly even though BMX tunnels shows everything as being perfect, including the inet4
line with the exit node saying internet.
Steps to reproduce:
1] set up a node with internet access [A]
2] connect client via ethernet to a known to work second [and non-exit] node [B] which is
wirelessly meshing with [A]
3] ping internet from client [it works]
4] shut down [A]
5] shut down [B]
6] turn on a new node [C] with the exact same config as [A] and connect it to the same
WAN
7] turn [B] back on
Everything in luci will appear perfectly, you’ll be able to ipv6 ping any node, but any
internet bound traffic will time out, even from the luci diagnostics page [not a client
routes issue].
After rebooting [B], everything works consistently across reboots.
I’ve yet to try with standard 1607, but I’m using an extremely lightly modified config.
I’ll do that tomorrow anyway.
Is there a way to restart batman to see if that’s the issue? [can’t find its entry in
“startup”] Is there a way to restart some other service to figure out what the issue is?
What should I look for in logs?
Is there a general way to force-reset something if a node sees a mesh exit-node but
somehow isn’t able to route traffic to it?
Thank you
Nk
