Right, you usually want to edit /etc/config/lime and not /etc/config/lime-

Modifying the file lime-defaults should have no effect
when running
lime-config. I think that lime-defaults file is useless and we should
remove it from lime-system.

Which file are you modifying? lime or lime-defaults?
Ok, I just followed your instructions, flashed
the new firmware and
erased the old config. Ssh-ed in, modified /etc/config/lime-defaults,
run lime-config, and... it doesn't work ;)

/etc/config/lime-defaults is not ignored, it is used often more than
/etc/config/lime, the difference is that lime-defaults is not supposed to be
edited by the user while /etc/config/lime is supposed to be edited by the user,
and that if a configuration is present both on lime and lime-defaults the one
in /etc/config/lime is preferred as it is supposed to be set by the user
