The reason why we are doing releases of LibreRouterOS and not on LibreMesh is because we need for the features that we are pushing to get updated for those that are already using the LibreRouter, while the LibreMesh community self-organizes at its own pace... we don't want to impose but we either want to stall the process of the LibreRouter, and we don't have any more capacity for other things, so we have opted to continue contributing (as we have always done) without imposing processes. And for those that are not already aware, the reason why we maintain the LibreRouter as an open software and open hardware mesh wireless router for Community Networks is because there are none that fit the job to support geek-free wireless infrastructure as it does: two high power 5ghz open source-compatible radios, comes from factory with LibreMesh, and has many custom hardware that makes it perfect for CNs. In these times though, were there is going to be a massive economic recession greatly affected by the coronavirus, we understand that the need for repurpusing of equipment might grow, and we hope that more people get inspired by this and contributes support for more devices. We have a strong commitment with the LibreRouter.org and we also hope that its adoption also helps reduce the pressure in the repurpusing of equipment, but we still understand and hope that those that have already been manufactured can be put to good use where they are needed. I would say it is definitely worth a try, as it fixes essential issues that repurpusing hardware creates in Community Networks, from increased maintenance, fragility that comes of using off the shelf domestic equipment for other uses, repairability, open hardware customization, and so on.
