Clarifying my question about a modem-router combo: we could use a modem that is only a
modem, and connect or to a router, or maybe even NanoStation M2. Choosing equipment is
matter of what's compatible and what's available.

The public ISP here has just informed is that after all it may be
impossible for them to sell us a fiber optic connection in the town we
have line of sight to, so we're looking for ways to improve our DSL
quickly whole we figure out our longer-term strategy.
