Hi fred,
Ammbr is a new project jumping on the "Initial Coin Offering (ICO)"
trend, and this is what I meant by "speculation".
They have produced a white paper which is also somehow speculative
and
marketing oriented leaving out many key challenges and technical
details
for implementing the underlying vision (in short, no prototype is
available).
However, the concept is obviously interesting and since the details
make
a difference worth thinking carefully about some of them, like the
convertibility of the currency with "fiat money", how to ensure
liquidity, and other important currency design issues that do not
have
to do with computer engineering.
I will share soon a related paper that we are writing with Leandro
Navarro for
on some interesting analogies and possible
synergies between community currencies (which have a long history
before
bitcoin) and community networks.
The LibrePod is very beautiful!
And if there is interest in this list about this topic I will be
sharing
some hopefully interesting material ...
Best,
Panos.

Hi
Thanks for Ammbr link,
do they have a working prototype to show?
In my case, to reduce proof of work extra power consumption,
I was thinking about using free money project from Duniter
https://duniter.org/en/ (money is member generated instead of
blockchain
mining).
Prototyping it on a "LibrePod" conceived in
http://redport.cl/
Adding P2P services. Like document sharing & media center + social
network service + device charging service...
I am willing to make the project in collaboration with Dominica
Governement as a Mesh Network service to rebuild after Hurricane.
Cheers

Hi all,
Perhaps you have heard of Ammbr?

It seems highly relevant for this discussion.
Personally I have many reservations for a scheme that combines
speculation with sharing :-)
It doesn't need to conceive speculation... that is there by
design...
there could be a currency that doesn't include speculation as
part of
its model.
