If you can configure your modem to allow the LiMe gateway node to do
PPPoE (and get a public address) **and** get rid of all buffer bloat,
that can be a good option.

I deployed a couple of TP-LINK TL-W8970B routers (unlike what's written
on the package those are capable of VDSL2 incl. vectoring -- just the
stock firmware can do ADSL2+ only) and use LibreMesh on them.
When I started to go down this road, it was probably only me there. So
I convinced a lot of people to help make LibreMesh offer targets other
than ar71xx. lantiq/xrx200 was the first I used in production back
then and it works great. No more double NAT, no more buffer bloat,
people are using VoIP/SIP on those (pretty crowded) networks and even
that works.
