This is often the case for devices with more than one interface and
OpenWrt: the lan ports are eth0.1 and wan is eth0.2. Instead, eth0 is
quite useless in these devices. This could be different depending on the
router. And will surely change for many routers in the next OpenWrt
release with DSA switch driver.
Sorry for the bad-quality information but I don't know much on this :)
