I'm catching up too.
Yes Nico, we've being talking a lot about a Latin American meeting. It

Let's talk about this in another thread, now that we know this cannot be
organized through a BTN project.
But let me understand - if we can't use the big
slot for the global
meeting, then we have to find a new project, right? And perhaps think of
something for the small grant too?
Yes, I have confirmed that we cannot propose for BTN projects that need
to spend most of their budget in travel expenses.
We can still keep sharing our ideas regarding inter-community exchanges
and regional and global meetings, but for the present BTN cycle we need
to find a new project, or one for large grant and one for medium (30K
and 10K respectively).
We have been talking a bit about this in the LibreMesh/LibreRouter
community and we could make a grant proposal in the line of continuing
development of both the software and hardware components. Many CNSIG
communities are using or planning to use these technologies and we could
collectively decide what's are our collective needs in this regard, but
I personally do not want to impose a project.
Kyle (ISOC) did mention that technology development projects fit well in
the BTN for SIGs, as long as their impact extends to more than one
I propose that we share some ideas on projects we could present from the
SIG and then choose one for each type of grant.
So, in line with what I just mentioned, my first proposal for
* LibreRouter phase 2
... let's populate a list of ideas? We can then either discuss here or
do a Mumble meeting to evaluate possibilities. We need to do this soon.

OK, I've been doing some inquiries to avoid working in vane and it turns
out that BTN money cannot be used for events like the one we are
planning to organize.
But it's not bad news really... Christian O'Flaherty (ISOC) just told me
that ISOC can support a regional meeting in Latin America this year,
outside of the BTN program, with ISOC budget and then during 2019 ISOC
can support a global summit.
This means that we wouldn't be competing for budget, but we would need
to agree with ISOC on the planning of the event. Christian told me they
would like to invite Government, regulators, private companies, etc...
to which I answered that my impression is that we CNSIG would like to
have a meeting that is more work-centered, but it would be great to host
a 1 day event (maybe the last day of the summit) where we can receive
all these stakeholders and invite the general public too.
Let me know what you all think of this developments...
And this also means that we need to think of other projects to present
for a large and medium BTN grant this year from the CNSIG.

Chapter/SIG could receive 1, maybe 2 grants.
Kyle from ISOC has confirmed that only one slot (big grant)
assigned to the SIG. So I think we must
decide for what's our

He mentioned that we could also get one small grant slot, so
can think about something for that too.

The call for proposals will be extended untill May 29, so we
have a bit
more time, but we still need to work on
Regarding the "transnationality" of the proposal, I think that
presenting a proposal that is signed by every organization

of the CNSIG will send a very strong signal
regarding our will to
collaborate in our path forward.

I completely agree that
this is crucial, and most of all at

I'd say we can propose to have a global Community Networks Summit

- have a duration of at least 5 days
- be organized with no waste of resources (no hotels,

Sol, should we do a poll to pick a date and do a Mumble meeting to
brainstorm and begin preparing a project?
