If we don't want to do both Latin American and Global meetings in Cordoba, there is a place with good infrastructure in Hiure's town, Monteiro Lobato, a 3 hours car ride from São Paulo. We used the rooms of a boarding school where 20 can sleep. There are also hostels and people who can host guests. And the neighbors are building a fine network . Sorry to confuse everyone - and apologies too to Rodrigo for misremembering our conversation :/ - I have long dreamt of visiting Brasil! and your projects there are hella inspiring! ...and gratitude to you all for being kind and running with it anyway... <3 I should have prefaced that, yes, while I know ISOC is distinct from Battlemesh, the feeling at the end of 2017's was that the community had outgrown its centralization in Europe and possibly its overcommitment to the raw technology (at the expense of focus on the many other aspects that enable community networks to grow and sustain), and could hugely benefit from reliable sponsorship so that hosts could focus on the core logistics and also afford to offer travel stipends to folks in the global south (I believe someone - was it you, Nico? - suggested ISOC) - but I also do recall people expressing their love for the Battlemesh vibe, community, and space to geek out on this particularly niche technology space. It's a refreshing departure from the many "decentralization" tech confs that have sprung up in recent years. I've grown allergic to Bitcoin bros, to be honest... Either way, I would like to extend my support and perhaps, a proposal, for a multiplicity of Cuddlemeshes (the vibe at last Battlemesh was also that the name no longer fits the ethos of joyful collaboration that ensues there) or Community Wireless Summits (my first was the 2013 International Summit for Community Wireless Networks, held in Berlin and sponsored by OTI and c-base, and it was awesome!), think we should offer to partner with the existing Battlemesh community, and would be down to commit some time and energy to planning / drafting proposals. I have some nonprofit bureaucracy / grantwriting / accounting foo, if needed for, say, crafting a budget/proposal/contracts... That there may be simultaneous network gatherings in Africa and Asia is very exciting!
