he had "smartmesh" in mind, for a similar project, and had actually
already registered several tlds with that.
both of us two disliked the "smart" prefix, and suggested "libre"
instead, which is what we had been using for everything (DeltaLibre,
QuintanaLibre, LibreNet6, and afterwards also libremap)
unfortunately, libremesh.org was already taken. we discussed some more

Because is a referer to open-mesh.org, but our is free as in freedom! said libre-mesh.org was available.
none of us 3 liked the hyphen, but it was the best we could do
we agreed we'd need to be very consistent in the "long, canonical name"
to always include the hyphen and avoid confusion, then pau said a
shortname was needed as well, suggesting "lime" - *that's* when the name
really stuck with nico and me :P

after several weeks, i realised the similarity to open-mesh.org and
thought of it like a funny coincidence;
We was talking at the beggining! It was not a coincidence, man. As the
rest is like you said, when Pau said libremesh.org was taken I proposed
"dash" for libre-mesh.org as in open-mesh.org.
given the good relationship we
have with batpeople, i'd even put it as a tribute :D
