I had issues with chef at some point as at the time my target boards were
not in the list. Also at some point chef was producing builds that were not
able to sea each other.
I then went and followed the instructions to build from source, I also had
to figure out by trial and error which exact packages to use for my use
case BATMAN-adv/babel/yggdrasil. I since been using builds without BMX6 or
BMX7
lime-proto-anygw relates to how internet access will be provided to other
mesh devices/clients you can use the BATMAN-adv as this will also provide
gw access to other mesh devices and clients
share your .config file and I will see what help i can provide you

I suspect the documentation on building isn't quite finished yet, so
perhaps I should leave things for a bit or simply use Chef.

as the 17.06 builds used a meta (collection package) that selected all the
required packages called "lime-full'
