Has anyone managed to get a router with at least 3 gigabit ethernet ports
to perform services like redundancy or load balancing using the multiwan
packet? I'd be interested in hearing your experience and a recommendation
of what to buy, and how to configure the ports. Guido (busy sailing these
days) told me that the hard part is configuring the ports, and that each
configuration is hardware-specific...
Has anyone tried with the tplink wr1043n? It's the cheapest gigabit machine
i have been able to find....

Multiwan seems discontinued, you should use the mwan3 package:

I tried once, using a TpLink WDR3600 with plain OpenWrt (not LibreMesh)
for trying to have a stable connection out of two unreliable WWANs
(connected to the WDR3600 via cable, while WDR3600 was the AP and mwan3)
and it worked, no much configuration was needed indeed.

thanks to guifipedro, we got it working on the tplink wr1043n using
openwrt... As Guido said, the tricky part was to get both blue and yellow
ports to work. If anyone wants to see the configuration for the wr1043n,
i've attached:
/etc/config/dhcp
/etc/config/mwan3
/etc/config/network
/etc/config/system
/etc/config/wireless

oops, no, didn't quite work, had all kinds of problems that I couldn't
solve. But i DID get it to work on an archer c7 v2, which a fellow in
france had very thoroughly documented, here is a fork of the repository,
working great using openwrt 18.06:
