Hey all,
I'm getting a few techies together tonight to play with libre-mesh to see
if we can't eventually setup a network in New Orleans. I'm pretty novice
myself so it would be cool if someone could try to be around in the IRC
channel in case we have questions.
We're meeting at 6:30pm Central US.

Quick update + quesitons. Tried to install prebuilt binaries from
downloads.libre-mesh.org tonight but not much success.
- *Ubuiquiti airGateway: Working.* But just broadcasting a LiMe SSID.
Before, every node would broadcast Libre-Mesh and Libre-Mesh/ID. What's the
best way to keep track of these changes?
- *TL-WDR4300: Can't flash, blocked*. Can we follow same instructions as
http://libre-mesh.org/docs/hardware/tl-wdr3500.html ?
- *TL-WDR3500: Will not broadcast* wifi after flashing.
- *TL-WR841Nv9: Will not broadcast* wifi after flashing.
- *Ubiquiti airRouter: Will not broadcast *wifi after flashing.
- *RaspberryPi: Not attempted.* How can we get LiMe on these?
- *WE1626: Not attempted.* Shipped with OpenWRT. Can we follow the
instructions for compiling code yourself from here

redirect downloads.libre-mesh.org to chef [2]?
Does that mean we should be using the builds from chef? The ones at
downloads. seem to have newer upload dates?
Anyways, we are meeting again this Wednesday. What's the best way I can get
some help from the group before then to get things working? I have some
guesses about how I can debug the process but help would be tremendous.
Can someone be on IRC sometime Mon/Tues? I'll be happy to put together a
tutorial and put it on the site if I/we can get things working.

Well, the builds in chef are a stable release, while the builds in
develop are some broken old trunk, seems. So, in develop there are newer
files but they're neither a stable release neither the last version of
the trunk. The downloads subdomain is simply abandoned and we decided in
April to replace it with a redirect to chef.altermundi.net

Hey, sorry for slow response, Independence Day here..
Meeting went well last week. Some notes here:

To summarize:
- Moderate success with chef builds. Routers seem to be very near (about
15m with walls) each other in order for mesh to form. Phones can roam
further and be able to maintain a connection.
- Question: How to setup so that internet can be shared: a) wifi
(internet) -> computer -> ethernet -> router w/ LiMe, or b) ethernet
(internet) -> computer -> wifi -> router w/ LiMe. Tried scenario A but
no success.
- Question: What are best practices for doing DNS. How to give a LiMe
node a static IP and set a network wide alias to human readable some.domain.
- Question: What is compatibility between builds? I haven't been able to
successfully compile using lime-build yet. Once I am, how can I know if
that build should be compatible with something on Chef, for example.
- Question: How to add device types to chef list of compilation options.

FYI, we'll be meeting for the last time tomorrow (Wed) night before
breaking for a few weeks. Would be cool to get some more direction.
Most important is that we're still not clear how to get internet access
on the mesh. We don't have ethernet internet access where we are working
but internet is available over wifi.

liMe shares internet connection when you use the auto-gw modules (i.e. bmx6-auto-gw-mode,
batman-adv-auto-gw-mode),
you should also manually configure your liMe box to connect to your wifi internet, using
'wan' as the uci interface name
or you can use a non-liMe box which connects to the internet wifi and bridges it to the
ethernet, then you connect ethernet to the liMe wan eth port.
if you go this way, you should add the lime-hwd-openwrt-wan module.
